Islamabad: June 16, 2005. On special invitation of Former Federal Minister, Convenor World Minorities Alliance

and nominated candidate for Nobel Peace Prize Mr. J.Salik, Dr. Israr Ahmed, President Anjuman Khuddam-ul-Quran, Founder Tanzeem-i-Islami on Wednesday the June 15, 2005 addressed a public meeting at 5.00 pm at J.Salik's residence House No. 11 Street No. 45, F-7/1 Islamabad. The children of the katchi abadis in yellow dress welcomed the honourable guest with flower leaves. The proceedings started with recitation from the Holy Quran. Mr. Laiq Ahmed Qureshi, a resident of F-7/1 welcomed the Chief Guest. Mr. J.Salik elaborated following grievances before the guest. J.Salik said that by ignoring the minorities in the recently presented budget, the government has added to our insult. It is a great cruelty and symbol of hatred to force the poor sanitary workers to wear yellow para shoot jacket uniforms of the yellow colour dustbins during swear hot weather. The sanitary workers are facing far more cruelty than that existed in the age of "FIRON" who are getting only (US $ 28) Rs. 1700/- per month for cruel 10 duty hours a day under privatization system during these days of price hike. Under aged children engaged on daily wages basis in violation of labour laws are paid (US $ 20 to 25 only) Rs. 1200 to 1500/- only. He expressed his concern that the katchi abadis of Islamabad to which during his minister-ship in 1995, he had given the rights of ownership, no developmental work has been started. These abadis have not been provided with even the basic facilities. On the basis of self-reliance these abadis have only one electricity meter to feed the entire abadi. He commented that the National Assembly seats of 207 have been doubled. Even the seats of women have been raised to 60 but the 30 years old minority seats still remain only 10 which through magic stick instead of election have been filled by selection resulting in eliminating the representation of minorities. Dr Israr Ahmed informed the gathering that the sole purpose of his visit from Lahore to Islamabad was to listen to your problems and to address you for better understanding and relations between the Muslims and the Christians. He listened to the problems with great patience. Mr. J.Salik requested to raise the issue on different forums especially on forum for human rights. In the end Dr. Israr Ahmed assured of his full support to the cause of all the oppressed community and declared that in the eyes of Islamic justice all are equal irrespective of religion, colour and race.
