Hyderabad: April 19, 2017. (BY ABBAS KASSAR) Pakistan military has thwarted major terror attack on Lahore Church on Easter ( Sunday 17 April 2017) by killing one top terrorist Ali Tariq and arresting a terrorist commander Azim alias Foji and a girl Noureen Leghari from Hyderabad ,a second year medical student of Liaquat university of Medical and Health Sciences Jamshoro, during operation at a housing society in Lahore. Lahore suffered one of Pakistan’s deadliest attacks in 2016—a Jamaat-ul-Ahrar suicide bomb in a park last Easter that killed more than 70 including many children. The country’s cultural capital has subsequently been on edge since a fresh wave of attacks struck Pakistan earlier this year.. Arrested girl Noureen has said in her video statement that she had married with terrorist Ali Tariq killed during operation at Lahore Housing society 2 days before Easter. She had said she had been brainwashed by Ali Tariq two and half months back through social media. She said she was to be used for terror attack on Lahore Church on Easter day. Noureen is second year medical student of Liaquat University of medical and health sciences Jamshoro near Hyderabad. She belongs to a respectable Leghari family. Her father is professor at Sindh University. On receiving information of security personnel operation in Lahore in which her daughter was arrested, he has left for Lahore to ascertain facts. Earlier when Noureen had gone missing from Hyderabad on Feb. 10,2017, a message was received by her brother that said she had reached ISIS headquarter Baghdad in Iraq. She has confessed she would have been used as suicide bomber on planned terror attack on Easter at a Lahore Church. Giving the modus operandi of the planned attack, she said, “The organisation [Islamic State] had provided two suicide jackets, four hand grenades and some bullets on April 1, 2017, which were to be used in a church during Easter celebrations.” “Ali had plans of terror attacks from the very beginning, like, suicide attacks and kidnapping intelligence officials,” she said. “A boy called Abu Fauji was involved with him in such activities.” She made it clear through her statement that no one had kidnapped her as she had left for Lahore on her own free will. About herself, she said, “My name is Naureen and I belong to Hyderabad. My father’s name is Abdul Jabbar who is a professor at Sindh University. I am a student of second year MBBS in Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences.” The SSP had claimed that after investigating Naureen’s friends, classmates and teachers, the police are convinced that she nurtured extremist tendencies and that she was also in contact with a terror outfit through Facebook and Instagram. Meanwhile LUMHS vice chancellor Professor Dr. Noshad Shaikh has said medical student of LUMHS Noureen Leghari was in constant contact with Ali Tariq who radicalized her to join ISIS. He said a committee has been formed to investigate Noureen who was arrested on Friday in Lahore after her husband Ali Tariq was killed in encounter with CTD in Lahore last Friday. VC said her contact with Ali Tariq transformed her mindset and influenced her towards extremism. VC also said that she was a reserved girl who used to pray 5 times a day. Security personnel had found her LUMHS card and NIC copy of her father from her hideout.
