HRFP Value triumph of justice to Asia Bibi

Pakistan: October 31, 2018. (PCP) Human Rights Focus Pakistan (HRFP) highly value’s the triumph of justice on acquitting Asia Bibi, was falsely alleged under blasphemy charges (295 C). The efforts of Civil Society Organizations and of assassinated Shahbaz Bhatti (federal minority minister) and Salman Taseer (governor Punjab) are not gone in vain. HRFP acknowledge also the struggle of individuals/groups working on religious minorities rights resulted in success and we salute to the courageous Judges and lawyers who faced even extreme death threats but they performed their duties and supported the truth.

Naveed Walter president HRFP added; the verdict is a proof that the cases of blasphemy are actually rooted to the personal grudges and conflicts between communities. He appealed the Supreme Court of Pakistan for notice to review and judicial inquiry of all blasphemy cases, where victims are imprisoned not only Christians but other minorities and Muslims as well.

Naveed Walter said that HRFP have a long advocacy & lobbying struggles history for justice, fair trial and release of Asia Bibi since she arrested on 19 June 2009 and death sentenced on 24 November 2010. He said further that the Supreme Court of Pakistan stated in their verdict of 08 October 2018 announced on 31 October 2018; “Stately, since 1990, 62 people have been murdered as a result of blasphemy allegations, even before their trial could be conducted in accordance with law. Even prominent figures, who stressed the fact that the blasphemy laws have been misused by some individuals, met with serious repercussions. A latest example of misuse of this law was the murder of Mashal Khan, a student of Abdul Wali Khan University, Mardan, who in April 2017 was killed by a mob in the premises of the university merely due to an allegation that he posted blasphemous content online,” which demonstrate the real facts and affects of false blasphemy accusations on innocents, he added more.

Naveed Walter president HRFP said that government should provide foolproof security to Asia bibi until her safe release from prison & relocated to a safer place as she and family facing severe death threats. HRFP urged for security measures and condemn the threats to judges, lawyers, victim’s family and human rights groups by religious groups who made hurdles in free & fair trial and her safe release, he added more.
