Islamabad: July 31. Sanitary staff under privatization working in various sectors of Islamabad have gathered at the residence of J.Salik for the last three days with regard to lesser wages, 12 long duty hours, deduction of pay for absence, no holiday even on national days, non provision of brooms, repair of hand driven carts at their own and yellow parachute uniforms. J.Salik himself is in protest for the cause of sanitary workers for the last 55 days.
Today Mr. Mustafeen Qazi, Director Sanitation CDA, Mh Khan (AD) and Saleem Bhatti (Chief supervisor) came to the residence of Mr. J.Salik. The Director said that around the world sanitary workers have been provided with specific uniforms which irritated J.Salik who said that we have our own culture, customs and traditions in Pakistan which was created after thousands of sacrifices and USA, Europe have their own culture and traditions. We according to our environment and culture are not bound to follow them. In support of this statement J.Salik quoted a number of example. J.Salik took the attitude of Director Sanitation as threatening and informed him in emotions that he is sitting on Ashes for the last 37 days but none from CDA cared for it. He further said that CDA people do not care for the solidarity of the country but the suspension of sanitary work in three Sectors have brought them here. In response the Director threatened to remove the absentee from service, J.Salik responded advising to Director not to bother about 400/500 people because a larger number of quantity of doctors and engineers are jobless in Pakistan. He added that in case he takes them all to the tomb of Quaid-e-Azam with bowls in their hands they would get much more than CDA pays them but as we have great respect for dignity of our country. J.Salik clearly told him that these sanitary workers sitting here are not only a department but a full fledge nation in all respect.
He further said that if you are interested only in sanitation work I alongwith them will do this without any reward. On this J.Salik came out of his residence and all the sanitary workers followed him with brooms in their hands. Dr. Ehtasham Anwar, AC Islamabad who happened to be the present on the occasion in view of the tensed situation desired the CDA administration to leave. In such a way he controlled the situation.
