Concern of Global Council of Indian Christians (GCIC) on forcible conversion of Christians by radical Hindus in Gujrat.
10 Jan 2006
Banglore: Mr., Sajan George, President of GCIC expressed his grave concern on forced conversion of Christians in the dang districts of Gujrat by radical Hindus. The fact-finding team from Delhi has irrefutable proof to show that radicals are systematically planning to enact a Godhra like situation to unleash Mayhem in Dangs. GCIC has urged the National Human Right Commission (NHRC) to direct Gujarat Government to save the life and property of poor Christians living in Dangs
A report by a Delhi-based voluntary organization has accused the Gujarat government of collaborating with Sangh organizations in forcibly converting tribal to Hinduism in the Dang district of Gujarat. Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and its affiliated organizations like the Vanvasi Kalyan Parishad and the Hindu Jagran Manch have organized a Shabri Kumbh on February 11-13 this year in Dang district, which is one of the smallest and poorest districts in Gujarat with a population of 1,86,000. The massive mobilization of the tribal community in the district by a RSS-affiliated organization has become controversial in view of the allegations regarding `Hindukaran` (proselytisation) of the tribal.
In Dang, tribal comprise 92 per cent of the population while Christians are less than 5 per cent. The Shabri Kumbh has become a sensitive issue because more than 5 lakh tribals of India are expected to participate in the festival.
A Delhi-based voluntary organization had formed a citizen`s inquiry committee comprising of Digant Oza, social activist, Shabnam Hashmi of Act Now for Harmony and Democracy, RohitPrajapati, human rights activist, Ram Puniyani secretary of All India Secular Forum and other members to inquire about the mass mobilization of tribals and the intentions of its motivators.
According to their report, the Gujarat government is openly collaborating with Sangh organizations in "forcible conversion" called ghar vapsi (return home). Under this tribals are taken back into `Hindu` society.
