Karachi: The Capital City Police Karachi here on Friday, 26 th May, filed a Final Challan/Charged sheet in the case pertaining to outraging the modesty of the Lady Administrator of Brenton Carey Girls Hostel in the Court of 1st Judicial Magistrate Karachi (South).
On 11th April 2005 the bishop of Karachi namely Rev. Sadiq Daniel along with a large contingent of Ghunda elements and police party forcibly entered the Brenton Carey Girls Hostel (an institution of Karachi Diocese - Church of Pakistan ), outraged the modesty of the Lady Administrator and physically thrashed her after manhandling.
The lady administrator Mrs. Ghazala Shafique tried her best to lodge her case but Police denied registration of her FIR (First Information Report) due the involvement of senior police officials in the case, while the Bishops and Partners of the Church of Pakistan started defending and protecting Rev. Sadiq Daniel through false statements and reports; claiming that the allegations of Mrs. Ghazala Shafique are false and baseless. Whereupon the victim Mrs. Ghazala Shafique filed a Constitutional Petition bearing No. 1289/2005 in the Honorable High Court of Sindh at Karachi; wherefrom order was passed to register FIR on her statement.
On her statement a case vide FIR No. 169/2005 was registered on 6th December 2005 at Frere Police Station against Rev. Sadiq Daniel and his men for outraging her modesty but on 4th January 2006 the District and Session Court Karachi granted pre-arrest interim bail to Rev. Sadiq Daniel and his men on the ground that the investigating officer in Interim Challan had substituted the non-bail-able sections with the bail-able ones. Upon which the CCPO (Capital City Police Officer) Karachi on the request of administrator Mrs. Ghazala Shafique vides orders no.CCPO/RDR/201-06/2006 constituted an Investigation Board of six senior Police officers to examine the previously held investigation and on the recommendation of the Investigation Board the CCPO vides orders no. CCPO/RDR/748-53/2006 constituted an Investigation Team to re-investigate the case on merit.
During all this time the Bishops of the Church of Pakistan and Members of the Church of Pakistan Mission Partners Forum had been defending and protecting Rev. Sadiq Daniel and his men; claiming that allegation against them are baseless and false. Even an enquiry commission constituted by the so-called Synod of Bishop Alexander John Malik declared Rev. Sadiq Daniel and his men as innocent.
The Investigation Team of six senior police officers; headed by the Senior Superintendent of Police, under the overall supervision of Deputy Inspector General of Police re-investigated the case, examined the witnesses i.e. Students and Staff of Brenton Carey Girls Hostel and proved the presence of Rev. Sadiq Daniel and his men at the place of offense beyond reasonable doubts and on 26th May 2006 the Investigation Team filed a Final Challan/Charged sheet bearing no. 67/2006 in the Court of 1 st Judicial Magistrate and vindicating the statement of the victim Mrs. Ghazala Shafique requested the Honorable Court to proceed against the culprits.
