Lahore: June 8, 2018. (Sunil John) Different Religious Leaders pray for Peace in the World on the appeal of Pope Francis at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Lahore, organized by National Commission for Interreligious Dialogue and Ecumenism (Catholic Bishops’ Conference Pakistan) on June 8, 2018.
His Holiness Pope Francis sent an invitation to the whole world to pray for the peace on this planet earth.In response to his invitation National Commission for Inter-religious Dialogue and Ecumenism (NCIDE) organized a one minute prayer for peace at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Lahore on 8th June 2018.
Each religious leader said the prayer according to his religious belief and at the end all said the prayer of St. Francis of Assisi in Urdu; the national language of Pakistan.
Alhaj Pir Sayyed Ali Shah, Kalyan Singh (Sikh) Rev. Shahid Mairaj Dean of the Protestant Cathedral of the Resurrection, Fr. Lazar Aslam OFM Cap, Sahibzada Ahmad Badar, Fr. Fiaz Rafiq OFM Cap, Caritas personnel Naeem Naz, Raja Imran, Veronica, Asher Irfan and Shafiq, Dominican Sisters were Sr. Angelina Ibrahim, Sr. Catherine Pascal OP, Sr. Celine OP Sr. Hina Op, Sr. Rose Yaqoob OP and the Catechists Rafiq Anwar, Javed Anwar, Sarfraz Victor and Nadeem Hadayat participated.
At the same time prayers were offered for peace on the appeal of Pope Francis in the following famous mosques of Lahore during the Friday prayers: Jamiah Masjid Kubra, Samanabad in the leadership of Maulana Muhammad Asim Makhdum, Jamai Masjid Fatima tul Zahra where the preacher was Allama Mufti Ashiq Hussain and at Jamia Masjid Kausar Manzur Lahore under the leadership of Maulana Tanvir Hussain Muhammad.
Besides Lahore the young people prayed during youth seminar conducted by the Youth Commission of Lahore Archdiocese inside St. Mary’s Church in St. Mark’s Parish Gujranwala. The priests present were Fr. Tariq George, Fr. Emmanuel Ahmed, Fr. Wixin Paul and Fr. Yousaf Yaqoob.
Fr. Inayat Bernard the 2nd secretary of the NICIDE said that from the creation of the world first murder was by Cain and the peace was disturbed. From the beginning there has been dire need for peace in the families, villages, towns, cities and the country. We welcome the Papal appeal for peace and we ourselves also will continue to make efforts in our capacity to ensure peace in our surrounding.
