Open letter to Pakistan Government, And Report on Toba Tek

By : David E Bhatti

Ref the above two fantastic stories appearing first and second from the top on 30th Oct, on the front page of PCP in the column headed "Top Stories". I rejoice and praise God for each response because it is in accord with the teaching of our Lord. They also are winners! First the Open Letter To The Government Of Pakistan Many Pakistani Christian feel bitterly about their treatment in Pakistan, and so a bitter response to the advice by the Pakistani Council General in Canada would have been understandable, especially when following such advice would create more problems for all concerned than it would solve. Therefore, it is with some pride that I note that Rev Gill showed concern for the Council General ( a Christian response), while pointing out why certain issues need to be stated more specifically. There should be no doubt in anybody's mind that Pakistani Christians have every reason to wish and do what is best for Pakistan. Being the original inhabitants of Pakistan, it is our country as well. I found report to PCP on Toba Tek quite uplifting as well. These days, it's not often that I hear about individuals being so sensitive to the Word of God, especially when such an individual happen to belong to a notorious group of brick factory owners. But that was before he was convicted of his wrong doing by the Word of God (Yes!! Our weapon is righteousness of God). Being a new person now, this brick factory owner did a lot more for the old lady than was expected of him. Here is a twenty first (21st century) story that confirms the truth of so many similar New Testament stories. The report also carries a lively account of many programmes that are already well on their way within a short period of eight (8) months. Again this echoes the works of the Holy Spirit. The movement grows at a terrific speed. This can be a problem if you are not careful. Peter was. He was inspired to realise that preaching was to be separated from daily management of the needs of the group (Acts 6:1-6). In today's Pakistan, management must aim to be properly accountable and transparent. I know the present church organisations in Pakistan are highly centralised. Everybody who anybody in the church for whatever reason seems to have only lofty aim, namely to grab power. However, the days of close systems are numbered, for accountability and transparency also are now a part of Pakistan government's policy. Maybe here is another area where Fidmission USA can set an example for Pakistani church. On a practical level, it would pave the way for generating funds, winning co-operation of others who matter, and perhaps one day achieving the dream of establishing a Christian University in Pakistan. I am willing to offer my expertise in this area free of charge, if it is needed. I can be contacted at my email address mehardar@aol.com David E Bhatti Scotland
