Lahore: June 16, 2009. (PCP) Dr. Nazir s Bhatti, President of Pakistan Christian Congress PCC advised Catholic Bishops Conference,

Non Governmental Organizations under umbrella of Pakistan Catholic Church, Catholic clergy and other Catholic Congregates to widen rift among Christians of other sects and Catholic by issuing statements like “Catholic federal minister Shahbaz Bhatti” or “A Catholic Shahbaz Bhatti rises up to Federal Minister” which are damaging unity of millions of Pakistani Christians. ‘There were already a Catholic Minister for Minorities late Fr. Rufin Julius who was elected under Separate Electorate and J Salik was also Federal Minister who was not Catholic but it was never quoted in Pakistani press like “Catholic” or “Protestant” congregate of clergy as “Shahbaz Bhatti, a Catholic Minister” said Nazir Bhatti The present statements and press releases issued by Catholic Bishops Conference to tag Shahbaz Bhatti as Catholic Minister seems to be a conspiracy against unity of Christians in Pakistan on intimation of establishment and to extend overdue support to a lame duck Catholic Shahbaz Bhatti who have been failed to fulfill his promises to secure social justice for Christians. There are voices being raised by different school of walks in Pakistan pressing upon President Asif Ali Zardari to take resignation of Shahbaz Bhatti and appoint any capable person to be minister for minorities who may reach out to communities and not sit in a Bunker like Shahbaz Bhatti. There are news items in Pakistani Press that Shahbaz Bhatti is hiding in “Bunker” for his safety of life and is totally cut off from public out reach which government needs at present to scrape Taliban agenda. It is also very important to mention that Taliban or any other Extremist Group in Pakistan have never issued any warning or life threat to Catholic Federal Minister for Minorities Shahbaz Bhatti The Pakistani Christians are already fully aware that Shahbaz Bhatti was person of Press Conferences and Seminars funded by Catholic Church of Pakistan and not leader of masses. He was also selected MNA by PPP on a secret deal among Catholic Bishops Conference and then nominated as Federal Minister. The 5% quota is not any relief nor will registration of marriages of Sikhs and Hindus in Pakistan when upper class Hindus are opposing 5% quota and terming registration of their marriages against their Personal law. PCP also learned that a powerful Hindu lobby in PPP government is pressing upon Prime Minister Yousaf Gillani and President Asif Zardari to appoint a Hindu as Minority Minister instead of Shahbaz Bhatti for remaining period of government. “The Unity among Christians in Pakistan is only solution to their problems nor a lame duck Shahbaz Bhatti and we hope that Catholic Bishops Conference shall not dismantle Unity by their press releases to divide Christians as “Catholics” and “ Church of Pakistan” congregates” Said PCC Chief Nazir S Bhatti said it is need of time to help Christian IDP,s and to collect data of Christian migrants from Swat Valley, Malakand and FATA that their rehabilitation may be also discussed with government after successful operation by army. There are claims by government to built new homes in effected areas for IDP,s but if we do not have exact figures of displaced Christians registration shall not enjoy any privileges of state. Talking to PCC Lahore leaders by phone, Nazir Bhatti urged them to work for Unity of Christians and move for awareness to block agenda against our Unity.
