Senator Robert P Casey, Senator Benjamin Cordon and Senator Sam Brown
I, the undersigned, Nazir S Bhatti, Chief of Pakistan Christian Congress PCC, wish to bring in your kind notice that millions of Christians in Pakistan are very surprised on a news item published in section of Pakistani print media with reference to your letter to President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister of Pakistan Yousaf Raza Gillini expressing satisfaction on situation of religious minorities in Pakistan.
The news published states that honorable US Senators congratulated Pakistan government on awarding equal rights to religious minorities with formation of relief committees, 5% job quota, representation in Senate of Pakistan and allocation of federal minority ministry.
It is on record that incidents of attacks on Christian’s life and property, arrests under blasphemy law, rapes of Christian women on workplaces, enforced conversion of Christian girls for marriages by influential Muslims, setting on fire worship places of Christians and killing of innocent Christians have risen more than 100% in Pakistan under present government.
The millions of Christians in Pakistan have lost their voice in democratic institutions by imposition of Joint Electorate system which have snatched democratic right of Christians to elect their representation in parliament while Muslim political groups are empowered to select Christians of their own choice in National Assembly of Pakistan and Provincial Assemblies and same shall be practiced for minorities reserved seats in Senate of Pakistan.
Do your honor think that Selection is a democratic process instead of Election which was imposed by President Musharraf in 2002, abolishing Separate Electorate? Being an elected Senator of US, when US is recognized globally as mother of Democracy and Democratic System, it is very surprising to note your satisfaction letter to a government which is Selecting our representation instead of election.
The Christians in Pakistan have always demanded Dual Voting right that they may elect their representation and also may cast their vote for Muslim parties in their respective constituencies but same is denied by government of Pakistan in 18th Amendment in Constitution.
There was no representation of Christian in Constitutional Reform Committee which drafted 18th Amendment in Constitution to propose repeal of blasphemy law and changes in election system for minorities but it is ironic to note that Constitutional Reform Committee proposed omission of name of General Zia-ul-Haq but not to scratch Hadood Ordinance and controversial Islamic laws imposed by him. It clarifies that Christians or other religious minorities have no voice in Pakistan under present government. If we had elected representatives in parliament they had never voted in favour of 18th Amendment which carried nothing for us.
I will appeal your honors to press upon government of Pakistan to repeal blasphemy law and award us right to elect our representation in parliament unless selected tools from minorities will keep misleading on situation of minorities on international forums on intimation of their Muslim masters.
The minorities in Pakistan are not satisfied while they have been deprived of their equal democratic rights as citizen of Pakistan.
Please note that we have no Christian Justice in Supreme Court of Pakistan or four provincial High Court when dozens of new Justices have been appointed to make Pakistani judiciary having largest Justices. The Christians have no ambassador in any foreign mission, no Christian in 22 grade of civil services, no Christian on rank of general in Armed Forces when we are 13% of population of Pakistan but we are barred to have any key post in Pakistan.
I hope that your honor will provide me a chance for presentation on issues of Christians in relevant US Senate Committee on Religious Freedom, Foreign affairs and others because violence against Christian have risen after NATO invasion in Iraq and Afghanistan.
