ATC sends Dr Asim on 90 days remand

Karachi: August 27, 2015. (PCP) Close aide of former President Zardari and former petroleum minister Dr Asim Hussain has been handed over to the Rangers, Aaj News reported.

He was later transferred into the custody of Rangers personnel, who presented him in the ATC today under strict security. According to Samaa correspondent, Dr. Asim was produced in a local anti-terrorism court where Rangers officials requested the judge to grant 90-day physical remand of for interrogating the accused. Besides being the HEC Sindh chairman, Dr Asim is also the chairman of the Ziauddin Group of Hospitals in Karachi. His remarks came after an anti-corruption court in Karachi issued non-bailable arrest warrants for the two PPP senior leaders including the former Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and Makhdoom Amin Fahim in a case related to corruption in the Trade Development Authority (TDAP). "This is not the way", Shah said, adding that if there was any evidence or case against Hussain it should have been made public. It has been further stated that Dr Asim would be willing to cooperate in investigation if any accusation is leveled against him. His family, she said held every right to be informed about his whereabouts as well as his condition. Dr Asim Hussain was chairing a meeting of the search committee for vice chancellors which was also attended by other high-ranking officials of the HEC. The letter stated that Dr Asim is a chronic patient of diabetes and hypertension and requires constant medical care.
