Washington. December 30.(PR) Mr. Ashraf Jehangir Qazi , Ambassador of Pakistan in USA has emphasized the importance of the positive role that the Pakistani-American Christian community could play in bringing the people of the two countries closer. H
Referring to the recent incidents of terrorism against Christians in Pakistan, he stated that the Government has immediately condemned these cruel and evil acts and has done its best to apprehend the culprits and bring them to justice. The elements who are engaged in these heinous crimes are in fact the enemies of Pakistan. The Government is undertaking all possible measures to fully ensure implementation of the laws already in place to guarantee the rights of the minorities and prosecute those individuals who are found guilty of violence.
The Ambassador also highlighted the restoration of joint electorate system for the minorities in Pakistan, which was a longstanding demand of the Christian community. Besides, he also informed the gathering that a high powered National Commission for Minorities had been reconstituted under the Chairmanship of the Minister In-charge to safeguard the minorities rights. The Constitution further guarantees equal status and rights to the followers of all religions and prohibits discrimination on account of religion, race, caste, color or creed etc.
