The Bishop Conference of Pakistan exposed on Islamic laws when settled disputes under “compensation law†and now Azraiah murder case
30 Apr 2006
Raiwind: The First Information Report (FIR) No. 152/2006 registered on 26th April 2006 at Raiwind City Police Station u/s 324 and 109 PPC (Pakistan Penal Code) against Bishop Samuel Robert Azraiah and his men for attempt to kill Mrs. Khalida Nathaniel w/o Dr. Raja Nathaniel Gill was modified by the Police here on Thursday, 27th April into murder case u/s 302 PPC, after the lady expired in Jinnah Hospital, Lahore.
On 26th April two bullets had hit Mrs. Khalida Gill, who was attacked by the armed men of Bishop Samuel Azraiah at her residence and had to go a major surgery but could not survive, in her statement before death she had nominated Bishop Azraiah and his men for attempt on her life, which was later endorsed by her husband Dr. Raja Nathaniel Gill, the former Legal Advisor of Raiwind Diocese, Church of Pakistan.
The post mortem was performed today at Mayo Hospital, Lahore after which the family of victim Mrs. Khalida Gill took her body to Raiwind for funeral, which is expected to take place at 5:00 PM at Raiwind.
A reliable source from Lahore has informed that in a similar situation and case where Bishop Azraiah was charged in a murder case at Raiwind, couple of years ago, Bishop gave 1.6 million rupees to the relatives and family members of the victim, to reach a compromise in the Court of Law. These sorts of compromises are permissible in the law according to the prevailing Islamic Law of "Diat".
It is sad to note that it has become common practice of most of the Bishops in the Church of Pakistan to take criminal actions against those who oppose their policies or criticize money matters. Last year Sadiq Daniel in Karachi Diocese publicly stripped a women working as Lady Administrator of a Diocesan Girls Hostel, as her husband (a Clergyman) was not supportive to him. The Church of Pakistan Malik fraction had appointed an Inquiry Committee to protect Sadiq Daniel but the facts of the case as reported by the victim were vindicated by high level Police Officials and the High Court of Sindh ordered registration of FIR against Sadiq Daniel and his men for out raging modesty.
Presently Bishops of the former Church of Pakistan have gathered with Bishop Alexander John Malik at Lahore to focus as to how Bishop Azraiah can be provided protection, whereas up-till-now the Church of Pakistan Mission Partners Forum, His Grace the Archbishop of Canterbury and other related churches and organizations are silent over this sad incident in the Diocese of Raiwind, Church of Pakistan.
