Christ, the Creative Spirit, Born On Earth. By Fr. Anand Muttungal

The Holy Bible is a compilation of the creative spirit of God revealed through prophets and in the incarnation of Lord Jesus Christ. As many times as one reads it one gets newer meanings and inspirations. But it gives no enthusiasm to the one who does not want to look for inspirations. Teachings of Christ are creative thinking and simple ways to do ordinary things in an extraordinary way. I understand every Christmas as the birth of a new world order. In Christmas one celebrates the birth of this great source of inspiration. Creative thinking is a way of searching a better way outside the frame work of existing thoughts. Creativity is the ability to think differently and connect the seemingly unconnected. Lord Jesus used his ability to do things in a new and rare way helping even the ordinary ones to understand his views.
Christ was not just a reformist but a creative spirit that forced his disciples and opponents alike to think beyond their socio-religious boundaries. The creativity of Jesus is very well seen in his call to go beyond the meaning of Sabbath. He went into the house of one of the rulers of the Pharisees to eat bread on the Sabbath, he invited lawyers and Pharisees to read law between the lines, he healed the sick, he plucked the cons and ate. He challenged their inability to think beyond the existing system.
The most exciting example of boldness, Jesus not only took the name of God as His Father but said that he was His only Son, knowing well that it would annoy the powerful lobby of Jews. It was due to these challenging thoughts that the Jews sought to kill Him, because He not only broke the Sabbath, but also said that God was His Father, making Him-self equal with God." (John 5:16-18).
,The creative message of Christ influenced his disciples which made them strong to the point of death. St. Peter who treated Jews as separate began to threat non-Jews and Jews equally; St. Paul got the Jerusalem Council to approve that those joining Christianity need not go for circumcision. Reading the signs of the times He said, ‘no one can come to Me unless it has been granted to Me by My Father.’ Creativity of God is visible in everything, at every moment a new meaning is given to most ordinary things in life. I always think how boring life would be without God’s creativity? It is very understandable that the Bible begins with the creation of heaven and earth and it ends with the creation of a new heaven and a new earth.
While participating in a meeting someone asked me, ‘You have been one of the most out spoken priests who have not faced any action from the Church.’ why is it that the Church officials are very soft on you? I said, ‘the Church has come long way from the period of heresies. I have been one of the strongest defenders of the Church. I believe in every fundamental teachings of faith and have defended at every occasion without the fear of life. All my writings are invitations of creative methods to revive the Church and the community. Fortunately the modern Church officials are open minded and taking most things from the point of creative spirits.’ I honestly believe that I will stop writing all things when Christ; the most creative thinker will stop inspiring me.
If one meditates over the message of Christ, one can no more be following the trodden path. The creative spirit of Christ will engulf one with new thoughts. One will become a creative person when breaks the ordinary way of just repeating the clever things made by others. Even the most stupid ideas will find place in the minds of others if one puts them in a better order. Criticisms are very useful in making one strong. If tripping a child when he is learning to walk doesn't help improve his walking skills! Constructive criticism does not squelch creativity but teaches people to keep their ideas to themselves. It is very natural that most people who enjoying the fruits of a particular the system, will always resist any creative thinking that can change their current works. Every Christmas reminds that every creative thinker will have a similar fate like Christ but that does not mean that one must ignore inspiration of Christ, the creative thinker. If all people decided to restrain from all forms of uncomfortable situations in life then we would have been still living in Stone Age.
HAPPY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY NEW YEAR
