Separate Christian Province on division of Punjab is only solution to minority rights in Islamic Republic of Pakistan. By Bazir S Bhatti

If anyone thinks that 25 million Christians have forgotten their demand of Separate Christian Province in Islamic Republic of Pakistan, then its totally wrong. The rising violence against Christians in Pakistan by Muslims and not giving them due share in power have forced them to raise their demand of Separate Province.

The demand of Separate Christian Province was made by Nazir S Bhatti in 1992 in a press conference in Hotel Jabes Karachi and duly followed by millions of Christians. The issue was raised from platform of Pakistan Christian Congress PCC which have branches all over cities of Pakistan and duly registered as political party with Election Commission of Pakistan.

Is historical fact that present province of Punjab fell in lot of Pakistan when Christian leaders voted for division of Punjab before Boundary Commission set for formation of Pakistan as a state by British rulers who were governing India before independence of 1947.

The founder of Pakistan Mohammad Ali Jinnah recognized rights of minorities and struggle of independence that he declared Separate Electorate System in his 14 Point declaration during movement of Pakistan.

Pakistan government followed policy chart out by its founder and awarded Separate Electorate in constitution framework of 1952 and 1956 but unfortunately these rights were snatched by upcoming governments of Pakistan.

The undemocratic laws were formed by Muslim majority state of Islamic Republic of Pakistan, like Blasphemy laws by adding Section 295 B and C declaring death penalty for those who defile name of Prophet Mohammad and his decuples.

This law of blasphemy was used against minority community individuals from 1987 onward. The Churches were attacked by Muslim mobs on pretext of blasphemy laws and residential of Christians attacked.

Now, when news are spreading that government of Pakistan intends to form new provinces in Pakistan, the Muslim rulers must consider Separate Christian Province as solution to issues of religious minorities where they may enjoy equal citizen rights in a society to ensure social justice and freedom to enjoy rights.

I must clarify that Christians demand is not for a separate  state with break of Pakistan but want Separate Christian Province as Administrative Unit  in Punjab province of Pakistan where they are second biggest religious community after Muslims.

Some Muslims of Pakistani ruler are against Separate Electorate for minorities where they may elect their representation for parliament with their own vote instead of voting to Muslims who may select their representatives in parliament.

In 2008 with 17th Amendment in constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan Selection  for minorities was introduce with changes to Section 50 and 51 of constitution which was violation of human rights sections guaranteed under constitution.

I hope Muslim majority will come out of Delima on Separate Election for minorities as they were able to form Pakistan and run Movement of Pakistan after Separate Elections were given to them by British rulers in India.

The solution of issues of human rights depends on formation of Separate Provine for Christians with division of Punjab province as one of administrator unit of Islamic Reublic of Pakistan.
