NCJP organized a Peace Building Training Workshop

Faisalabad, Pakistan: May 19, 2009. (Suneel Malik reports for PCP) The National Commission for Justice and Peace (NCJP) organized a 2-day peace building training workshop for teaches on May 9-10, 2009 at Centre for Peace and Harmony in Faisalabad. Thirty Muslim and Christian teachers from government, private and missionary schools of Faisalabad actively participated in the workshop. The purpose of the workshop was to make the teachers aware of the philosophy of peace and non-violence, and to update them about the law and order situation in Pakistan. The resource persons of the workshop included Father Nisar Barkat (Director-NCJP), Father Khalid Rasheed Asi (Director Youth Commission), Mr. Syed M. Zikeriya (Director Jamia Abedia), Mr. Yousaf Benjamin (Coordinator-PEP), Mr. Anwar Chaudhry Advocate and Ms. Rubina Inayat. The resource persons demanded for promotion of peace that: · The chapters based on peace building, religious and social harmony should be included in the educational syllabus, whereas biases and hate material should be eliminated from the curriculum; · Modern and quality education for all children should be made free and compulsory and minds of children should be cultivated with positive and constructive thinking in schools for bringing about better change in society; · The students in religious institutions should be educated about the teaching of other religions for promotion of peace, tolerance and acceptance; · Training programs should be arranged for teachers at local and national levels to prepare the students for peace keeping; · Debate and essay writing competitions should be arranged on inter-religious harmony and dialogue in the educational institutions;
