Today on 19th March 03, Saleem and Rasheed brothers are released by the high court of Lahore, Pakistan. The High Court Judge, Mr. Justice Rustam Ali Malik at last has given his decision after 6 weeks. Mr. Aslam Pervez Chaudhry CLAAS' Lawyer represented the brothers but for unknown reason the Judge did not give the verdict on the same day. He reserved the decision and announced it today.
Saleem and Rasheed Masih are two brothers resident of Pasrur district Sialkot; they were arrested on 3rd June 1999 on the complaint of their villagers under blasphemy (while the main reason is land dispute). On 11th May'2000, the Additional and Sessions Judge Pasrur, Justice Rana Muhammad Yousaf awarded 25 years imprisonment (life imprisonment) to Saleem & Rasheed Masih and 50 thousand fine each in 295-C and 10 years imprisonment and 25 thousand fine each in 295-A.
