Karachi: August 27, 2009. (PCP) “I demand of issuing “Ration Cards and opening of Ration Depots” for the needy” said Bishop of Karachi The Government must open Ration Depots and Ration Cards to check hoarders. In the light of two news published in “Dawn” dated 27th August about subsidizing wheat flour and doubling wheat supply, it is a feeling all over Pakistan that either the officials and political elements handling the sugar and wheat flour are incapable or corrupt. In any of the two cases the poor of the country are suffering beyond their capacity. It is clear that deliberate crisis was created for the price hike of sugar and wheat flour to benefit certain stake holders The Government is claiming to subsidize billions on these two essential communities at the cost of the Nation by supplying truck loads of wheat flour and sugar on the utility stores. The Governments both at the Federal and Provincial levels through the Food Departments and Industries Departments are responsible for a smooth flow of all these items at affordable rates. The long lines of needy persons in front of the Utility Stores and around trucks are disgrace to humanity and denial of the basic rights. Bishop Ejaz Inayat said “ I suggest that since the Governments are subsidizing billions to these two items they immediately switch over to the well defined and proven system of “Ration Depots and Ration Cards” so that the citizens of Pakistan are able to buy their necessary items in a dignified way”
