Islamabad: November 2, 2009. (PCP) Dr. Nazir S Bhatti, President of Pakistan Christian Congress PCC expressed concern on threats of Islamic parties to government on its intentions to repeal blasphemy law which is demanded by religious minorities in Pakistan. ‘Christians voted for independence of Pakistan in London Round Table Conferences and before Boundary Commission on assurances by Mohammad Ali Jinnah and All India Muslim Leagues that Pakistan will be a Peoples Republic nor an Islamic state or homeland of Muslims only. When Christians were supporting Pakistan Movement, Islamic Parties in sub-continent of India were on side of Mahatma Ghandi and against creation of Pakistan” said Nazir Bhatti Nazir Bhatti added “ Christians in Pakistan are son of soil and partners in formation of Pakistan not conquered by any Muslim invader that they will be subjected to violence by any Islamic law in Pakistan” The Constitutions of Pakistan of 1956 and 1962 had provisions of Islam as well as freedom of religion and speech but Islamic parties sabotaged Constitution of 1973 and forced ZA Bhutto of Pakistan Peoples Party to name in “Islamic Republic of Pakistan” General Zia-ul-Haq introduced ‘Hadood Ordinance” and Islamic laws in Pakistan which damaged true spirit of Ideology of Pakistan. Nazir S Bhatti said that there are two parallel judicial systems in Pakistan and whenever government have to harass Christians it fits their necks under Sharia law or Pakistan Penal Code which is modified version of India Act of 1935. Under Sharia law Christians are prohibited to enjoy privileges of state as in Muslim month of fasting Ramadan in 2009, it was publicly notified by government that only Muslims can purchase sugar , wheat flour and other commodities from reduced rate outlets set by government. Nazir Bhaati said “ Pakistan Christian Congress will not withdraw from demand to repeal blasphemy law in Pakistan because its being misused by Muslims religious groups against Christians” “Islamic Parties are not only stake holders in Pakistan but Christians who played role in creation of Pakistan” clarified Nazir S Bhatti Nazir Bhatti announced that PCC will issue a comprehensive report on Blasphemy laws and other Islamic laws implemented on Pakistani Christian by Muslim majority violating their equal basic democratic rights in Islamic Republic of Pakistan. PCC will send this report to all heads of states in United Nations Organization and other prominent leaders around globe to press upon government of Pakistan to repeal blasphemy law. Nazir Bhatti further said that if government of Pakistan not repealed blasphemy law, PCC will file a lawsuit in Supreme Court of Pakistan to repeal blasphemy law after circulation of “Memorandum to repeal blasphemy law” among EU and US leadership.
