Hyderabad. July 6, 2003: The members of Hindu minority community has been agitating in Jaccobabad city of Sindh against what they called abduction of their unmarried girl Sonya by a shopkeeper Zulfiqar Ali Ghenchyo since 23 June 2003.Hundreds of Hindus took out protest procession demanding recovery of their girl. After a delegation of Hindu Punchayat led by their president Babu Mahesh Kumar Katani called on District Police Officer Din Mohammed Baloch to apprise him of the situation, a case of kidnapping has been registered against Zulfiqar Ali Ghenchyo, his uncle Khuda Bux Ghenchyo who happens to be the SHO of police station Saddar Jaccobabd but none of accused has been arrested no efforts made to recover the girl. On July 2,2003 a big rally comprising Hindu men, women and children was taken out in Jaccobabad which was addressed by Babu Mahesh Kumar president of Hindu Panchayt who said that since kidnapping of Hindu girl Sonya on 23 June no action has been taken for her recovery. The accused Zulfiqar Ali and his uncle SHO Khuda Bux have not been arrested. He said if the claim of accused that Sonya had converted to Islam was correct then she should be produced in court and allowed to meet father and mother. He said if was injustice with the Hindu minorities. Dr.Ms.Sunita Kumari vice chairperson of Hindu Panchayat said that the Hindu minority was treated as third class citizens and targeted to injustices. Meanwhile Sonya with her Islamic name Fatima appeared at press club Hyderabad on July 5,Saturday evening in company with her new husband Zulfiqar Ali (accused in the case No.44/2003 registered at city police station Jaccobabad). She was accompanied by one Khair Mohammed Ghenchyo uncle of Zulfiqar and Ghulam Ghous Jamali both belonging to Jaccobabad.Khair Bux told newsmen that Sonya had converted to Islam on 23 June 2003 at hands of Mufti Ibrahim Qadri at Sukkur and same day she married with his nephew Zulfiqar. When asked to confirm the statement of Khari Mohammed Sonya only nodded and smiled whiel Zulfiqar did not speak, as he appeared fatigues with his shut most time of press conference. On the other hand Kalpana Devi advocate of Larkana had traveled to Jaccobabad and filed an application with district and sessions judge Jaccobabad under article 491 Pakistan Penal Code. She told newsmen outside sessions court that minority community has been considered here as weak as such their girl has been kidnapped which was action against humanity. Sessions Judge had rejected the bail application filed by one accused Khuda Bux SHO of Saddar police station and issued warrants of his arrest but police was not acting. Hindu leaders Babu Mahesh Kumar, Ramchand, Karta Lal, Santosh Singh and Roshan Singh addressing the protest demonstration in Jaccobabd have alleged that Sonya has been converted forcibly after kidnapping. They demanded her immediate recovery.
