Lahore: June 11, 2010: (By Jawad Mazhar, Special correspondent for PCP) The white color in the Pakistani flag guarantees the religious freedom of all the religious minorities co-existing in Pakistan with Pakistani Muslims as it was also told to the nation by the father of nation Quid-e-Azam in his first ever speech to the Pakistan’s First Legislative Assembly under the chair of a man Jogindernath Mendal, seen untouchable by the Hindus as well as Muslims at that time, “all Pakistanis would be free to worship according to their faith and their would be no discrimination served to them by the Muslims living in majority in Pakistan on basis of faith". Talking to PCP Chairman of “Christian Lawyers Foundation” (CLF) Mr. Khalid Gill said that during the tyranny of General (late) Zia-ul-Haq the Qrara-dad-e-Maqasad, which serves as preamble of the Pakistani constitution, was tampered by him by erasing the words / phrase “Pakistani religious minorities would be free to practice their religions according to the teachings of their religions”. Khalid Gill appreciated that in the 18th amendment the words /sentence/ phrase which was repealed during the dictatorship of General (late) Zia-ul-Haq was restored to the constitution and lauded present cabinet and specially Chief Justice of apex (Supreme) court of Pakistan (CJP) for the 18th amendment. However he demanded that CJP of the apex Pakistani court must ensure that all the projects which were in doldrums for the uplift of Pakistani Religious Minorities must be implemented, he prayed to he honorable CJP that reserved seats for religious minorities, including Christians were ought to be doubled in the national and all four provincial assemblies of Pakistan. CLF president Gill urged that instead of only two minorities; seats in the upper legislative house (Senate) must also be increased. Khalid Gill & his general secretary Azher Kaleem of CLF also appealed to the CJP that all black discriminatory laws, controversial Blasphemy Laws and other laws which allow their misuse against Pakistani minorities must be at once and completely annulled. In the meantime several Christians’ rights organizations at Toba Tek Singh in a large get together appreciated the efforts of CJP of the Supreme Court for protecting minorities rights.
