Karachi: June 23, 2010. (PCP) Dr. Nazir S Bhatti, President of Pakistan Christian Congress PCC said that Bishops of Catholic Church in Pakistan and Church of Pakistan have been using blasphemy law to collect funds and issuing substandard statements to condemn imposition of Islamic laws on Christians in Pakistan while they were not and are not sincere to launch any campaign to repeal blasphemy law because they welcomed Sharia laws. “It is on record that Bishops Conference of Catholic Church in Pakistan and Bishops of Church of Pakistan welcomed Sharia Law during Zia-Ul-Haq regime and participated in Jurist Conference of Nawaz Sharif during his tenure as Prime Minister and termed Islamic laws to be only source of Justice for minorities” said Nazir Bhatti Military ruler General Zia-Ul-Haq introduced Islamic laws in Pakistan through Presidential Order Number 4 of 1978, “Prohibition and Hudd Ordinance” when as a Prime Minister, Pakistan Muslim League leader Mian Nawaz Sharif legislated section 295-C PPC of blasphemy law subject to death penalty. The Pakistani Christian clergy supported Zia-Ul-Haq and Nawaz Sharif by their writings, meetings and statements on imposition of Sharia Law on minorities in Pakistan. “Our Bishops have two faces, in Pakistan they support anti-minority moves of every government but when touring Western countries they start voicing against such decisions of government of Pakistan” added Nazir Bhatti Nazir Bhatti said “Pakistani Christians are in need of evangelism and support in social welfare uplift which is true duty of Churches in Pakistan but clergy is busy in political games and adding funds in their accounts for vested interests” “Pakistan Bishops Conference is not sincere in campaign to repeal blasphemy law but having media trial which is covered by some section of foreign Christian media outlets which are not fully aware about facts on ground in Pakistan” clarified Nazir Bhatti Pakistani Churches have compelled some religious establishments in West to initiate “Signature Campaign Petition” to repeal blasphemy law but Pakistan Christian Congress PCC wishes to bring on record that Islamic parties can bring more heads on streets than our signature against repeal of blasphemy law. Nazir S Bhatti, President of Pakistan Christian Congress PCC have appealed to national and international forums to join hands with PCC to challenge blasphemy law in Supreme Court of Pakistan because blasphemy laws were legislated on direction of Federal Sharia Courts and Supreme Court is only valid way to repeal it. PCC filed a Writ Petition in Lahore High Court to repeal blasphemy law in 1998, which was dismissed by a Division Bench of LHC pending right to appeal in Supreme Court of Pakistan.
