Karachi, Pakistan: A seemingly ordinary encounter at a beauty salon in Karachi has ignited a wider debate about Christianophobia, religious hatred
Gavin Harney, Angie Harney and their young son Warren are currently in Dungavel Detention Centre, Scotland and are due to be removed on Thursday, 11 December 2003.
The family fled Bangladesh in April of this year. They are Christians in a predominantly Muslim country. They fled Bangladesh because of the violence, extortion, intimidation and threats they received due to their religion. They were regularly intimidated for money, the police took no action and Gavin was threatened at gun point. At this time the family decided to leave in fear of
their lives.
The family have only been in the country a short amount of time but have quickly established links with the local community and their church. It is not in the public interest to remove this family.
