NCID Celebrates Eid with nomadic people, distribute gifts

Sialkot, Pakistan: September 17, 2010. (By Fr. Inayat Bernard) This year National council for Interfaith Dialogue celebrated Eid with the nomadic people. The team approached their make-shift settlement along with Eid cake, gifts, drinks and sweets. Cake was cut and gifts were distributed. The reason to celebrate Eid with these people was to make them realize that they are not the neglected strata of the society. The social and religious promotion program brought smiles and happiness in the faces of the poor people. Children were especially over excited and everyone enjoyed the party. The delegation led by Fr. Francis Nadeem OFM Cap was warmly welcomed by the nomadic. Special sitting arrangements were made with cots covered with hand made sheets and soft drinks were served to the guests. The ceremony started with a peace prayer by Babu Patras William. Fr. Francis Nadeem in his message said that all religions of the world teach peace, love and brotherhood. Peace is the only path to prosperity. He said that happiness of Eid is for all and we have come here with Eid gifts in order to promote humanity and such gestures could end miseries and problems and bring peace. He continued that we should not forget our brothers and sisters who have been badly affected by floods and have lost everything. We should give them a helping hand and assure them of our love and care by our altitude so that they will not feel lonely or neglected. Fr. Francis Nadeem cut the Eid cake with the children while Sr. Veronica, Mrs. Malik Sarfaraz and Deeba Gill cut cake with the ladies. Malik Sarfaraz, Samuel Khokhar, Babu Patras Aasi, Babu Patras William and Javed Gill cut Eid Cake with the male members. Sweets, juices, dry ration and eid gift were distributed among almost 500 nomadic people. Few nomadics like Razia Begum, Zohra Bibi, Sakina, Rani, Mohammad Sadiq, Makhan Din, Goga, Chiragh Din, Falak Sher, Wali Mohammad and Rahim Bukhsh while expressing their views said that it is the first time in their nomadic life that someone has given them respect and love. They thanked Fr. Francis Nadeem and his team and said that they would never forget this gesture of good will of the NCID. A lady Razia Begum said that she has informed her relatives in Rawalpindi that how hundreds of their community members are celebrating Eid collectively. In the end the nomadic bade farewell to the team with prayers, smiles and dances.
