At this juncture, Naseem Anthony, Shazia George, Nazia Sardar, Arif Ayaz, Mian Faheem Ashraf, Nadeem Raphael, Shahid Murshad and Atif Jamal addressed. They criticized people proposing undemocratic solution to the democratic problem of the country, and vowed to oppose any undemocratic and unconstitutional step in the name of change in the democratic system. They added, “We believe that solution to the current crises in Pakistan is possible in the continuation of a democratic system; therefore we will defend democracy, will welcome any change within democratic framework in accordance with the constitution, and will reject any extra-constitutional ways and means in the name of political change.” The demonstrators demanded that: All the state institutions should not become a part of any unconstitutional or undemocratic step, and they should respect jurisdiction of each institution, supremacy of the constitution, independence of judiciary, freedom of media and will of the people, so that transparent and accountable governance could be ensured. The government should ensure good governance by improving its credibility and performance, and must avoid backing corrupt people by respecting and implementing verdicts of the superior court, so that culture of rule of law could be promoted and economic loss of the country could be recovered. The government must take practical steps to ensure enforcement of tax on landlords and industrialists. The government must ensure culture of transparency and accountability in order to regain the trust of international community towards the aid for flood affected people. We appeal to the people of Pakistan that they must be cautious of non-democratic elements, and must oppose any extra-constitutional or illegal moves because future of Pakistan is linked with stable democratic system.
