U-Turn of Pakistan government on blasphemy law is alarming for Christians

Karachi: February 4, 2011. (PCP) The announcement of Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani to withdraw private bill to amend blasphemy law under pressure of Islamic parties was not surprising for Christians because Pakistan Peoples Party PPP have always crushed minorities to prolong its rule weather it was ZA Bhutto, founder chairman of Pakistan Peoples Party PPP, who to cement his rule nationalized missionary institutions, scratched Sunday as public holiday, turned Ahmadi Muslims to be non-Muslims and called Christians to be “Dhimmi” said Dr. Nazir S Bhatti, President of Pakistan Christian Congress PCC “We pay homage to Martyr Salman Tasser and Sherry Rehman because Salman Taseer sacrificed his life for rights of oppressed Christian and Sherry Rehman submitted a bill to protect religious minorities in Pakistan” Said Nazir Bhatti Nazir Bhatti added “Sherry Rehman was under constant life threat on this bill to amend blasphemy law and late forced by PPP leadership to withdraw it” “We are grateful to Civil Society activists, enlightened Muslims, Islamic Scholars and media on holding positive stand on blasphemy law and to understand misuse of controversial law in Pakistan” said Bhatti There were widespread protest in favor of blasphemy law by fundamental Muslims when Pope Benedict appealed for freedom of Asia Bibi, a Christian mother, sentenced to death on accusation of defiling name of Prophet Mohammad. Nazir Bhatti urged Pakistani Christians to abandon Pakistan Peoples Party PPP and to form a United Christian Front to launch campaign for due share in resources of Pakistan which are denied by Muslim majority.
