Advocates Pakistan “AP” presented Memorandum to Governor Punjab on Blasphemy Law

Pakistan: February 24, 2011. (PCP) The delegation of Advocates Pakistan AP led by Mr. Ezra Shujaat Advocate, met with Governor Punjab Sardar Mohammad Latif Khan Khosa on February 12, 2011. The AP delegation was comprised of Christian lawyers, Christian Parliamentarians, Civil Society Activists and Church leaders presented a Memorandum to Sardar Khosa to ensure basic equal rights for religious minorities in Pakistan. The delegation expressed concern on misuse of blasphemy law and urged to restore rights guaranteed in constitution of Pakistan. His Excellency, Sardar Muhammad Latif Khan Khosa, Governor of Punjab, Lahore. His Excellency, we the delegation of Christian Advocates and Church Leaders congratulate your honour being appointed as the Governor of Punjab. We are grateful to be honoured to visit and have meeting with your honour at the Governor House, Lahore. Being representative of the Federation we submit before your honour this MEMORANDUM. To assure the rights guaranteed to the minorities by the constitution of Islamic Republic Pakistan 1973. To protect the minorities from the misuse of Islamic Blasphemy Law i.e. Section 295-B, 295-C Pakistan Penal Code. To protect the religious worship places i.e. Churches, Mandar, Gurdawara etc. To enhance the reserves seats for the minorities in Senate, National Assembly, and all provincial assemblies. To assure the implementation of 5% quota in the jobs in all institutions. The minority advocates be given a good representation in the judiciary. To give the good ratio to the minority advocates for appointment as law officers in the courts. To protect the implementation of personal laws to minorities i.e. dissolution of marriage and Succession Acts. The assure 5% seats, other than open merit, to the minority students in all educational institutions. The minority students be given the equal opportunity to study their religious education instead of Ethics or Islamiat.
