Islamabad: June 12, 2011. (PCP) Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has announced their decision to hold a protest and sit-in outside the Parliament House on June 15, 2011. Flanked by senior journalists and union leaders, PFUJ President Pervaiz Shaukat told a press conference that the government had been given a deadline of June 10 to establish a judicial commission headed by the Supreme Court judge to investigate the kidnapping and killing of journalist Syed Saleem Shahzad. But the government has paid no heed to it and now the journalists’ community is left with no choice but to stage a 24 hours sit-in outside the Parliament House. Journalists from all over the country would gather in Islamabad on June 15 and start their 24-hour sit-in at 3pm. Protests would also be held in other parts of the country against the government’s lack of interest in probing attacks on journalists. In a statement, PFUJ Secretary-General Amin Yousuf said that they would continue their struggle for the rights of journalists and would not budge to any pressure. Meanwhile, Secretary General of PFUJ has been asked to all Affiliates Union to make arrangements to assemble in Islamabad on June 15.
