Karachi: September 15, 2011. (PCP) The Central Council of Pakistan Christian Congress PCC issued here a statement today expressing surprise and concern on omission of Pakistan from Countries of Particular Concern CPC on violation of religious freedom. US State Department issued report of 2011, in which China, Saudi Arabia, North Korea, Sudan, Burma, Eritrea, Uzbekistan and Iran as countries engaged in violation of Religious Freedom but excluded Pakistan from the list. Michael Posner, Assistant Secretary of US State Department while issuing report on International Religious Freedom in DC argued that government of Pakistan has nominated Paul Bhatti as advisor to Prime Minister of Pakistan on Minority Affairs to fill seat of his slain brother Shahbaz Bhatti, creation of National Harmony Ministry and message of assurance by President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari on Minority Day to ensure rights of religious minorities in Pakistan is enough for Pakistan to ensure religious freedom norms. Pakistan was in list of CPC after attacks on Christians, Hindus, Ahmadi Muslims and other religious minorities on pretext to controversial blasphemy laws and Hadood Ordinance. PCC Secretariat issued a statement of PCC Chief Dr. Nazir S Bhatti in which he said that US must adopt standard policy on issues of religious freedom and exclusion of Pakistan from CPC have surprised millions of Pakistani Christians. Dr. Nazir Bhatti said “appointment of Paul Bhatti as Advisor on minority Affairs after assassination of his brother Shahbaz Bhatti, Federal Minister for Minority Affairs is political move by PPP led government of President Asif Ali Zardari who have not revived Federal Minority Ministry but introduced a dummy National Harmony Ministry” “The blasphemy law still prevails in Pakistan targeting religious minorities and dozens of accused of blasphemy law are behind bars waiting their fate” added Nazir Bhatti Shahbaz Bhatti, Salman Taseer and many others have been victim of blasphemy law in Pakistan then how US State Department can exclude Pakistan from CPC? Nazir Bhatti said that Pakistan is a failed state and rogue army which cannot be entitled of such concessions by United States of America. “If US government and its analyst think that such concessions to Pakistan and its establishment can support to curb Taliban and easy exist from Afghanistan, it’s not true” said Nazir Bhatti Nazir Bhatti said that there is continuous persecution of religious minorities in Pakistan and US state Department must include Pakistan in CPC.
