J Salik Challenges Government of Punjab Act of Privatizing (SWM) In Lahore High court

Lahore: October 18, 2011. (PCP) The Convener of world minorities Alliance and Nominee of Noble peace prize and Former Federal Minister for Population welfare has filed today a Writ Petition through Mr. Shadab H Jafri of Law City Associates Lahore; in Lahore High Court Lahore against Government of Punjab Challenging Agreement of Government of Punjab with a private Limited Company namely Lahore Waste Management Company by which services of thousands of permanent employees of the local Government are at the mercy of this private person. According to the aforesaid Agreement the Government shall hand over an amount of Rs.2 Billion including assests to the Lahore Waste Management Company for 20 years and the company is supposed to remove the solid waste. Meanwhile, in a similar petition filed by Sweeper Union, Lahore High Court on Friday sought reply from Punjab government on a writ petition challenging the privatization of the Solid Waste Management (SWM) into a company named Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC). Justice Umar Ata Bandial directed a law officer to ensure submission of the reply within two weeks. Sweeper Union of SWM have also challenged the appointment of administrators, following an amendment to the local government ordinance.
