Christian leaders welcome Bishop Coutts as Archbishop of Karachi

Karachi: January 27, 2012. (PCP) Saleem Khursheed Khokhar, MPA Sindh, Chairman Standing Committee on Minorities Affairs Sindh Assembly and President All Pakistan Minorities Alliance Sindh in his statement welcomed the appointment of His Excellency Most Reverend Joseph Coutts, Bishop of Faisalabad, as the new Archbishop of Karachi by His Excellency Pope Benedict XVI. Mr. Saleem Khokhar said that bishop’s tenure in Faisalabad, his focus has been on promoting peace among religious sects. He played a pivotal role in bringing about peace on the eve of the riots in Gojra in which a number of houses of Christians were set on fire on July 31 and August 1 in 2009. He said that he was a competent man to become the new Archbishop of Karachi. Mr. Shahbaz Sahotara and Mr. Samuel Xavier, Advocates High Court said that he is very much involved in the community and is a very kind-hearted man.
