(PCP) The Election Commission of Pakistan has asked Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs to take necessary action on a proposal put forward by Convener World Minorities Alliance J Salik seeking change in the procedure for election of member fill seats reserved for non-Muslims in the Assemblies’
The Election Commission has recommended to the Law ministry to t take necessary action on J Salik’s proposals which he presented in writing to the Acting Chief Election Commissioner on 6 April 2012.
The Election Commission wrote to the Law Ministry:” needless to mention that the members for women and non-Muslims are elected through Proportional Representative System of Political Parties List of candidates specified in Article 51(5) (e) and Article 106(3) (C) of the Constitution read with Section 47 A of the Representation of the People Act 1976on the basis of total number of seats won by political party in the Assemblies. The proposal put forth by J Salik regarding change of procedure for the above said election requires amendment in the Constitution and the law.”
