Pakistani Christians pay Tribute to mothers on “Mother’s Day”

Faisalabad: May 14, 2012. (Aqsa Kanwal) Arooj-e-Mariam Catholic Church organized a seminar titled ‘A Tribute to Mothers’ to celebrate International Women’s Day at Centre for Peace and Harmony in Faisalabad. 175 Muslim and Christian participants including teachers, students, lawyers, representatives of civil society organizations and house wives attended the event. The purpose of seminar was to pay homage to the sacrifices by mothers for children and to highlight their vital role for progress of country and nation. Father Nisar Barkat (Director-NCJP), Fr. Bonnie Mendas, Ms. Aqsa Kanwal and Ms. Nadia Ayub were among the speakers. Father Nisar Barkat said, “Mothers’ day is a day to present a tribute to the sacrifices of all the mothers of the world, we need good mothers rather than politicians and leaders for stability and development of the country”. Fr. Bonnie Mendas said, “It is imperative for mothers to acquaint their children especially girls with quality education for prosperous future of the country in general and family in particular”. Ms. Aqsa Kanwal said, “This day is celebrated to refresh the love of mothers towards their children, and also this day give opportunity to everyone to respect mothers for their affection, devotion and motherhood”.
