Karachi: July 30, 2012. (Fr. Qaiser Feroz) Franciscan Missionaries of Christ the King celebrated the Platinum Jubilee with great joy to cherish and renew their commitment to serve the unloved of society. FMCK, the local congregation of sisters came into being in 1937, 10 years before the existence of Pakistan. The congregation was founded by Msgr. Saleciuos Lemmens along with Mother Bridget Squeira who had the vision to educate children of broken families and to care for the physically and mentally handicap.
“Unconditional love and Service can Build a Peaceful Society”, said the Archbishop Joseph Coutts, the chief guest of the ceremony. He appreciated the untiring efforts of sisters and encouraged them to continue the good works to serve people of God and to transform the society.
As the time passed and number of sisters grew, they could not keep their dynamic services limited only to Pakistan. At present FMCK sisters are effectively serving the wounded humanity in Sri Lanka, India and Pakistan. On 28 July, 2012, the congregation has completed 75 years of their faith journey. Sister Sofia Yaqoob, Mother Superior in Pakistan, urged her sisters to continue serving the wounded humanity and sharing with them the love of God. We are living in a society where generally people live for themselves. “Human selfishness is the biggest enemy of social harmony” she said.
The Platinum Jubilee was well attended and celebrated by more than four hundred priests, religious and lay people.
