Lahore: September 3, 2012. (Pervez Yousaf) A special prayer service for the release of 11 years old mentally challenged Christian girl Rimsha at St. Joseph’s Church, Sarfraz Rafiqui Road Lahore Cantt. Fr. Pascal Paulus OP vice provincial of the Dominican order was the main celebrant while Fr. Francis Nadeem OFM Cap and Fr. James Channan OP were the co-celebrants of this prayer service. A large number of St. Joseph’s parishioners were present on this occasion. The worshippers were also observing a fast that day. On this occasion, all, and especially the children recited the prayers vociferously. They were also saying, “We want that Rimsha should be released immediately”. It is to be remembered that on the 16th of August 2012, Rimsha, a resident of Mehrabadi, next to sector G-11 in the capital city Islamabad was falsely accused of burning some pages of the Islamic primer and arrested by the local police under the article 295-B (blasphemy law) of the PPC . It is also notable that she is an illiterate child and suffering with Down’s syndrome. On this occasion expressing his views Fr. James Channan said that justice must be done with Rimsha because she is guiltless and now the evident is also at hand. Talking to the worshippers Fr. Pascal Paulus said that under these circumstances we have to be firm in faith and pray for the elimination of hatred and restoration of love and brotherhood in our country. Fr. Francis Nadeem also shared his views with the parishioners and said that objective of today’s prayer service is to express our trust in Almighty God that He will definitely bring out all the Christians from the persecution and sufferings. We hope that this innocent child girl will be released from the detention of police. He urged all the people to pray continuously for this purpose.
