Christian parliamentarian from Sindh condemns burning of Mardan Church

Karachi: September 24, 2012. (PCP) During the protest against Anti-Islam Film made in the United States the mob attacked the Church, School, Library computer lab of Northern Diocese, Church of Pakistan. It has been reported that the Pastor and Church Administration in Mardan were being threatened a week earlier of this incidence. The local administration was contacted by their Church Officials about the threats extended to them and to its properties. The mob spread kerosene oil and other inflammable articles and set the entire property of the Church, School, Library and damaged the doors and windows. The rioters desecrated the holy alter, Bibles and Prayer Books and tore them into pieces and set on fire. The Protestors / rioters even stoned and disallowed to fire fighters to enter into church compound to extinguish the fire which continued for good numbers of hours and burnt the church and its immovable property to ashes. The mob burnt four clergymen houses including the residence of Rt. Rev. Bishop Peter Majeed, Pastor Chand Masih, Pastor Ghulam Shad and the house Principal of the School. The rioters also set on fire three motorcycles and a vehicle and a son of one pastor was beaten up b the mob who has been hospitalized in Mardan. Mr. Saleem Khursheed Khokhar, Member Provincial Assembly Sindh, Chairman Standing Committee on Minority Affairs Sindh Assembly and President, All Pakistan Minorities Alliance Sindh immediately on his arrival from World Council of Churches Meeting held in Geneva at the Karachi Airport condemned the incident and called upon all the sections of the Societies including Ulemas, Politicians, Lawyers and Civil Society. Mr. Saleem Khokhar srongly condemned the production of Hate Film in USA in the name of Freedom of speech and expressions and appealed to the UNO to legislate an act to the International Law to prohibit such hate films against any religion. He stressed that this act of production of hate film has seriously damaged the inter faith dialogue / harmony which was being pursued by him and his colleagues in Pakistan. He advised the Christian Community in Pakistan to be peaceful and pray for the hormone and peace in the country.
