CLAAS helping Christian family to get justice for their daughter

Image

London: September 29, 2012. (PCP)Twelve-year-old Christian girl Muqadas Kainat, the daughter of Rafique Masih was gang raped and brutally murdered by Muslims living in the same area. Her body was badly bruised while her neck and arm was broken. This happened while her mother Naomi was in hospital for an appendix operation. Rafique Masih is a brick kiln worker in Sahiwal, where he works with his family and gets $ 4.50 for 1000 bricks. On average the family makes 1000 bricks a day and thus they can hardly survive. The police have registered the case and three young Muslims involved in the crime have been arrested and sent to jail while the police continue to find and arrest the other two people named in the FIR. CLAAS is supporting the family by providing free legal aid and continuing to build pressure on the police to arrest the remaining culprits. Christians are poor and forced to do menial jobs. Those who work on the brick kilns often face discrimination and their women are often sexually harassed, beaten and even raped, but the police hardly take any action against them. CLAAS deals with hundreds of such cases butbecause of the growing hatred against Christians there is no permanent solution.
