SHEIKHUPURA, Pakistan: A 25-year-old Christian man remains in critical condition after being shot during a violent altercation in a
Islamabad: October 4, 2012. (PCP) J Salik, a Pakistani Christian leader files an application in Supreme Court of Pakistan for early hearing on his petition filed in 2010 praying Election on reserved seats for minorities in parliament of Pakistan.
Mr. Zulfiqar Ahmed Bhutta Avocate and Mr. Ejaz Muhammad Khan Advocate submitting application for early hearing on behalf of Mr. J Salik stated that the petitioner is well known politician of Pakistan as well as well-known leader of Minorities in Pakistan as such he is very much concerned with the betterment of Minorities and their constitutional right on the basis of equal footings of other citizens of Pakistan.
The Advocates referred that in the year 2010, through above mentioned petition, the petitioner had highlighted extremely partial behavior with the Minorities / Christians living in Pakistan as Pakistan Peoples Party regime totally ignored and bulldozed the basic right of the Minorities to elect their representatives through their votes as the common people of Pakistan enjoy right to elect their representatives in the Assemblies, in furtherance to protect the basic right of the Minorities (Non-Muslim Population of Pakistan) the petitioner decided to challenge amended article 51-E of the Constitution of Pakistan 1973 by which procedure for reserved seats of Non-Muslim is shown through proportional representation, this system on the face of it a big cruelty with the Non-Muslim in Pakistan as it deprives the Minorities to elect their real leaders for the assemblies ( National Assembly and Provincial Assemblies) by their direct vote and representation of Minorities becomes selection rather than their appointment by election, infact the said article is even in contradiction with article 25 ,33,36,37(a) and 4 of Constitution of Pakistan 1973 besides others basic structure of the Constitution of Pakistan 1973 which emphasized upon equal rights of Minorities in Pakistan.
The next elections for National and Provincial Assemblies are expected in the coming months as such if the above cited petition is not decided well before the next elections then the Minorities living in Pakistan will be seriously prejudiced and they will feel more in-secured in the hands of their so-called MNAs and MPAs.
