Karachi: October 17, 2012. (PCP) Dr. Nazir S Bhatti, President of Pakistan Christian Congress PCC has expressed concern on life threats to Bishop Akram Gill in Lahore and demand of “Bhhata” (Illegal tax collection) from some local Muslim culprits.
The receiving threats to him and his family and demand of 2 hundred thousand rupees from a Muslim gang, Bishop Akram Gill lodged a report with area police urging security to his family and arrest of culprits.
The Shad Bagh Police Station registered First Information Report FIR under different acts of telegraph and others under Section 25-D 506 of 959/12 on complaint of Bishop Akram but no arrest have been made so far our filing this story while FIR was lodged weeks ago.
Bishop Akram Gill is Bishop of Pakistan of The evangelical Friends of Christ Church and based in Lahore city serving Christian community.
Nazir Bhatti said “Churches are Christian clergy is not safe in Pakistan and incidents of attack of life and property of Christians is at rise but government of Pakistan not serious for their safety and security”
“Pakistan Christian Congress PCC demands arrest of culprits threatening to life of Bishop Akram Gill and his family and urged government of Punjab to adopt necessary adequate security measure of Bishop Akram Gill” said Nazir Bhatti
