Hyderabad: Nov. 14, 2012. (By Abbas Kassar) Human Rights Commission of Pakistan has released findings of 8 member fact finding team it had constituted on attack of Taliban on Hindu Basti, Adam Goth near Karachi. The team comprised Asad Iqbal Butt (council member HRCP), district coordination Makhdoom Ayoub Qureshi, field officer Abdul Hayee, political workers Saleem Akhtar and Sachal Odd, journalists Nazir Ahmed (Sindhi daily Pak), Feroz Memon (Sindhi daily Fast Times) and Rabia Ali (English daily Express Tribune). The report says that on 24 September 2012 HRCP council member Asad Iqbal Butt received information that about 250 Teliban (students of Islamic seminaries led by few Moulvis (Islamic prayer leaders) attacked Hindu Basti, Adam Goth near Karachi on some distance from Super Highway. They were chanting slogans against non-Muslims attacked their homes and worship places and damaged them. They also attacked minority people with Dandas and injured many including women. They took away golden and silver crowns from deities of Kirshan Bhagwan and Radha. The team members reached the Basti and village where they were surrounded by villagers including women and children. The team was told that around 2590 Taliban of Madarssaha led by Moulvis attacked their Basti. The Taliban were carrying Dandas and stones with which they tore apart the deities of Kirshan Bhagwan and Radha and took away their silver and golden crowns. The team was told that Basti was resided by minority community mostly Hindus and Sikhs and few homes of Christians. The attackers threw the deities on roads after breaking them along with tearing pages of Gita, the holy book of Hindus. Team members saw themselves pieces of idols of Kirshan Bhagwan and Radha and pages of Gita. Three women Pathani, Bhag Bhari and Laxmi told that the Taliban snatched their ear rings due to which they got injured. Two men Govinda and a Sikh Tara Singh were injured due to stoning. Tara Singh lost his leg and could not walk. Team was told that report of attack was given to police Station Gulshan Maamar but no action was taken by police. They said police was also informed of an earlier attack on Basti on 14 January 2011 but nothing was done to protect them. The team was told that the villager’s men, women and children were scared and frightened after the attack. Bhagwandas principal of Rahe Nijat School and Haleema Rose of Rahe Nijat hospital also told that the school and hospital were also stoned and damaged. They said that they were living here since time of Kalhora rulers of Sindh. They demanded arrest of attackers, and compensation for damages. They said their lives were in danger and their men cannot go out for any job work.
