SHEIKHUPURA, Pakistan: A 25-year-old Christian man remains in critical condition after being shot during a violent altercation in a
Islamabad: January 18, 2013. (PCP) The Supreme Court has directed the Multan CPO Mr. Amir Zulifqar to decide an application regarding the registration of blasphemy case under section 295C PPC against Pakistan’s Ambassador to the US, Sherry Rehman, according to the law.
The complaint has been filed by the petitioner, Faheem Akhtar Gull a resident of Multan and a marble merchant by profession, accusing sherry of committing blasphemy on Dunya TV’s program “Dunya Meray Aagay” two years ago, and sought the court’s order to register a case against her.
On Thursday 17 January 2013,a two-judge apex court bench consisting of Mr. Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali and Mr. Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan accepted the petition, directing the case to be registered against Sherry under section 295-C PPC, over allegedly committing blasphemy and directed to Multan's Police chief to deal with this sensitive matter carefully as per law.
The petitioner told that Sherry had, in a private TV show on November 30, 2010, outraged the religious sentiments of Muslims with intentionally and deliberately. He also told that his petition was dismissed by a lower court and Lahore High Court Multan bench regarding registration of blasphemy case against the accused.
Sherry was one of those parliamentarians who wished to amend blasphemy laws to stop the misuse of blasphemy laws when the first Christian woman Asia bibi punished death sentence under section 295C PPC before her appointment as ambassador.
The two high profile personalities were assassinated on this issue, Late Mr.Salman Taseer Governor of Punjab and Late Mr.Shahbaz Bhatti only minorities’ minister. Now the issue of blasphemy is still haunting Pakistan's ambassador to United States, who was left Pakistan due to apprehension of attack and she was appointed as ambassador.
