Global council of Indian Christians (GCIC) condemns the heinous attack of our revered Catholic Scholar-Bishop Thomas Dabre of Vasai Diocese, near Mumbai. Our community which was already reeling under the terror unleashed in the Dangs of Gujarat by the Neofacist Hindutva forces, murder of Pastor Gajendra Munda and assaults in Orissa and acts of terror in states like Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bishop Dabre, children of the Suryodaya Ashram and the priests of the area remain vulnerable even as he culprits, surely identified by now, mock the police and the administration. Bishop Dabre, Fathers OneilFaroz, Philip Vaz and Andrew Rodrigues were inaugurating the SuryodayaAshram, a hostel for the tribal children in the Ghosali Village, MukadaTaluka on January 29 at around 1.30 p.m. when they were attacked by a hundred Hindu radicals and Vanvasi Kalyan Parishad armed with staves and rods. The local villagers, who repulsed the attack, prevented mayhem. When the people of our republic were celebrating the liberty assured to every citizens in our nation, members of Christian community in Madhya pradesh were humiliated and severely attacked on false pretensions and even denying their birthright to worship Jesus Christ. The police in Orissa and Madhya Pradeshand Orissa joined Hindu radicals to unleash terror on the minority Christian community The perpetrators in vasi enacted Gandhi's Martyrdom day by brutally attacking the revered Bishop We appeal to the Prime Minister and the Central government to tell state governments it takes a most serious view of such violence and will not hesitate initiating the sternest steps to protect the hapless, the poor.
