CLAAS to file appeal against death sentence of Sawan Masih

Lahore: March 31, 2014. (PCP) Sawan Masih (victim of Blasphemy) was convicted in a false case of insulting the prophet Muhammad during the course of conversation with a Muslim friend in Joseph colony Badami Bagh Lahore on March 08 last year. Since a year he is confined in a judicial lockup without committing an offense. On March 27, 2014 Additional Session’s Judge, Chaudry Ghulam Murtaza, Handed down the death sentence and also ordered him to pay a fine of 200,000 Pakistani rupees. Mr. Joseph Francis, International Director CLAAS has urged his legal team consisting on Mr. Naeem Shakir, Mr. Tahir Bashir and Mr. Nasir Anjum to file a criminal appeal immediately in the High Court against the order of death sentence by the Session’s Court. The legal team has prepared appeal on behalf of Sawan Masih within two days as we have time of 7 days to file this appeal. Sawan Masih has been signed Power of Attorney in the company of his wife Sobia Bibi and a Lawyer Mr. Tahir Bashir in the Jail and the appeal against the order of death sentence and fine would be filed in the High Court on 01-05-2014.
