Killing of Rashid Rehman advocate is failure of Punjab government

Karachi: May 8, 2014. (PCP) Dr. Nazir S Bhatti, President of Pakistan Christian Congress PCC has strongly condemned killing of Advocate Rashid-Ul-Rehman in city of Multan who have been receiving life threats and government of Punjab was aware of it. Rashid Rehman Advocate was providing legal aid to a blasphemy law accused Mr. Junaid who was a lecturer in local academic institution of Multan and denied any legal support by his former attorney after threats from religious extremists to him. Rashid Rehman Advocate was also Member of Human Right Commission of Pakistan and son of prominent Human Right defender of Pakistan Mr. I Rehman. Dr. Nazir Bhatti said “If Rashid Rehman can gunned down in his chamber on fighting case of a blasphemy accused by hands of Islamic extremists then who will step forward to provide more than two dozen blasphemy victims in jails” “The killing of Rashid Rehman is failure of Punjab government and indication of worsening law and order situation of this province which is safe haven of Islamic militants” added Nazir Bhatti Nazir Bhatti demanded arrest of killers of Rashid Rehman and to provide adequate security to all advocates who are providing legal assistance to victims of blasphemy laws in Pakistan.
