Murree: October 20, 2014. (PCP) In connection with the present global political scenario and upheaval among the Christians and Muslims of Syria and Iraq in particular, and the Middle East in general, on October 18, 2014, Murree Literacy Circle of Interfaith Dialogue, organized a seminar focusing the commonalities and services among the Christians and Muslims of Pakistan to each other which is essential promote interfaith harmony among the people of diverse faith backgrounds.
In his speech, the guest speaker Dr. Farrukh Sharon Bhatti, the founding director of St. Francis School of Excellence Murree, emphasized on the need of maximizing harmony and need of looking for similarities among the Muslims and Christians of the region. He reminded the audience that, Pakistani Christians always remained on front while serving, defending and contributing in the societal and national affairs of the country. He pointed out that, it is an unfortunate reality that even we live in the era of modernity and enlightenment, but still some indigenous Muslims do not accept local Christians as one of them, as indigenous citizens of the land. He highlighted that there are few fundamental religious elements that give fuel to such conspiracies that gossip that local Christians admire the West and its social trends over their own local cultures. He further argued that, it would not be appropriate to accuse Pakistani Christians of being sympathetic to the West and disloyal to Pakistan.
Dr. Bhatti mentioned that Christian educational institutions in Murree have a strong and long legacy of serving Muslim students regardless of their religious backgrounds. He reasoned that there has never been any sort of discrimination ever reported, while providing Muslim students of Murree Hills and of the country at large with quality education at Christian schools. He claimed that, it is an evidence of Christian loyalty to their country and its people that despite of opposition and persecution, Pakistani Christians are serving their local communities and making Pakistani nation a brilliant and enlightened nation through their services in multiple fields, and education in particular.
Dr. Bhatti concluded his speech by encouraging Christians and Muslims to help each other with their care and concern, while living and relating among themselves as members of one society. He urged that it is important to look for the times of joys and tragedy in the tough times of the world to be a support to each other to develop unity and harmony and to fight against the injustices, inflationary and poverty in the region.
