LARKANA: December 26, 2014. (By Nazir Siyal) Civil Society Support Program and St Joseph Catholic Church in collaboration with REAT Network organized a program to mark Merry Christmas Day here at St Joseph Catholic Church Larkana with the objectives to maintain solidarity with Christian communities to promote peace and interfaith harmony. The program was started with special pray offered in memoirs of slain children of Peshawar who had lost their lives on December 16, one minute silence was observed when little children were carrying candle vigil to show their sympathies. Speaking on the occasion, Larkana Deputy Commissioner Ghanwar Ali Laghari said that minorities enjoy full citizenship rights under constitution of Pakistan and said that our collective gathering here is a message for others that the followers of different faiths and denominations in Larkana are peace loving people. Mr. Laghari urged the people belonging from different faiths to harmonized peace and harmony in the district. He said that the day also mark the birthday of Quaid-e- Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah who had also assured the protection of all minorities in the Pakistan. He greeted Christian community with Christmas and assured that their grievances will be resolved by the district govt. Jamait-e- Ulmae Pakistan (JUP) President Larkana Chapter Moulvi Manzoor Ahmed said that Jesus Christ was sent to world as symbol of peace, brotherhood and respect for the entire humanity. “He not only healed the ailing humanity but preached the divine values of tolerance, love and compassion.” He said that Islam is the religion that promotes peace and understanding among people of all faiths and it strongly prohibits all forms of violence and aggression against all people regardless of their faith or race. He extended Merry Christmas greeting to Christian community. S. Babu Iqbal President of Larkana Press Club said that such kind of collective programs promote peace and interfaith harmony and provide opportunities to strengthen relationship of majorities and minorities. The program also featured a tableau performed by the children to show the message of peace and interfaith harmony. In the end, Mashooq Wadho, a local sufi artist mesmerized the audience with sufi poetry of Sachal Sarmast and other legendary lyricists of mystic poetry in his soothing voice. Iqbal Babu, Master Sadiq, Prof Mukhtiar Samo, Dr Inayat Magsi, Dr Pirh Sakina Gaad, Dr Moula Bux Kalhoro, Imtiaz Gorar, Mushtaq Tunio, Afzal Shaikh, Lashmandass leader of Bagri community and others.
