Faisalabad: March 11, 2015. (PCP) Human Rights Focus Pakistan (HRFP) in collaboration with Global Human Rights Defense (GHRD) & Coalition for the Rights of Minorities, Pakistan (CRMP) organized a Press Conference on religious minorities issues with particular emphasis on abductions, forced conversions and forced marriages of minority girls belonging to the Christian and Hindu girls in majority. Mr. Naveed Walter (President for HRFP and Provincial Coordinator for CRMP) , Ms. Nabeela Emmanuel , Mr. Shadman John and Mr. Zohaib Newton demanded the Federal & Provincial Government authorities to undertake actions based on results to control the increasing dilemma of minority girls abductions, forced conversions and forced marriages in Pakistan. In press conference Mr. Naveed Walter highlighted the bitter facts with representatives of print & electronic media that during last one & half years, approximately 500 cases are reported and some 374 such cases were reported so far this year across the country in which 70 per cent of these cases were reported from Punjab. Mr. Naveed Walter criticized the reluctant attitude of the Government authorities to curtail this form of violence against the religious minorities. President HRFP highlighted the cases in which the minority girls from Hindu and Christian community are forcibly converted to Islamic faith & the Government institutions have played one-side role unfortunately. Naveed Walter highlighted the cases of Rinkle Kumari from Sindh, Poonam Kumari & Payal Kumari from Baluchistan & Saba Waris , Hina and many others from Punjab Province where the culture of impunity prevails against the perpetrators who are responsible for abductions, sexual harassment, forced conversion & forced marriages. In the end, HRFP presented recommendations to the Government & demanded to devise legislations and 100 percent implementations for stopping this practice against the young minority girls. Mr. Naveed Walter also demanded to build a “Special Cell” linked with judiciary, Police authorities & local administration that could monitor, report and take action on the cases where the young girls from the religious minority are abducted, forcibly converted and forcibly married.
