Training program to avoid early child marriages

LARKANA: May 14, 2015. (Nazir Siyal) To create an awareness among the masses to avoid early child marriages, Aahung in collaboration with OXFAM arranged three days training workshop medical professionals of two tehsils of Larkana district, Dokri and Larkana tehsil here at local hotel. Speaking on the occasion representatives of OXFAM fslamabad Ambreen Sharif said that her organization is working on “Bachpan Bachaoo” campaign (save the childhood) which aimed to sensitize the common people and make them aware for preventing early child marriages, she added that underage girls are facing many health issues after the weddings and during the pregnancy and delivery, she told. Renowned social activist and representative Pirbhat Women Development society Rubina Chandio said, Sindh child marriage restraint bill 2013 has been passed by Sindh Assembly for controlling the early child marriages, but government has failed to get bill implemented in province, still premature marriages before age of 18th are in full swing, Police and district administrations were unaware, She stated that it was necessary to implement on new ordinance regarding the new law, contract child marriage is punishable for 3 years, Molvi, parents groom would be held and punished according to law, DR Sikandar Suhani, Dr Inyat Kandhro, Murad Pandrani, Shanul Khoso, DR Sher Muhammad Ghanghro and others also addressed on the occasion. Later Ambreen Shareef also chaired the first meeting of newly formed “Task Force” comprising on Lawyers, Journalists, Police and other citizens to deal with early child marriage issues in Larkana and Kamber Shahdadkot district. The meeting was attended by advocate Abdul Rehman Bhutto, Rubina Chandio, Imtiaz Gorar, Hanif Suhag, Hafeez Mangi, Javed Gopang, Khalida Sahar Soomro, Inspector Zareena Chandio, Murad Pandrani and others.
