Karachi: June 10, 2015. (PCP) Dr. Nazir S Bhatti, President of Pakistan Christian Congress PCC have expressed grave concern on hanging to death one Christian Aftab Bahadur Masih in Kot Lakhpat Jail Lahore and termed it as implementation of substandard laws towards Christian in Pakistan when execution of a Muslim Shafqat Hussain is postponed many times on issue of age but Aftab Bahadur Masih was denied a law which prohibits capital punishment to a minor. Aftab Masih was sentenced to death in 1992 on charge of killing 3 Muslim men when he was of age 15 only. According to family of Aftab Masih and statements of his attorney, police demanded huge sum of money as bribe to release Aftab Bahadur which they were unable to pay then police applied 3rd degree torture on Masih to get confessional statement and used police touts to record witness statement of killing to safe killers. Nazir Bhatti said that it is ironic that judicial system of Pakistan fails to ensure justice towards Christians in Pakistan and many spend years behind bars because in most cases poor Christians cannot pay bribes to police or hire lawyers. “It’s very important to note that Pakistani Civil Society and Pakistani Electronic Media totally ignore age issue of Aftab Bahadur Masih when gave due coverage to Shafqat Hussain case” added Nazir Bhatti The family of Aftab Masih presented Date of Birth Certificate and age on National Identity card of June 30, 1977, but courts and police never considered it which proved his age 15 years on committing a crime which Masih denied till walking for hanging.
