Two Christians from Pakistani origin join 23 member EAC on Freedom of Religion Canada

Ottawa: June 22, 2015. (PCP) Mr. John Gill of Canadian Christian Association and Mr. Peter Bhatti of International Christian Voice are also appointed as Members of the External Advisory Committee EAC on Freedom of Religion in a 23 member committee comprising of different religious communities in Canada here today. The major achievement fell in lot of Agha Khan tiny community in Canada who successfully bagged seat of Vice Chairman with appointment of Malik Talib who is President of Agha Khan Council for Canada while Father Raymond J. de Souza, a Roman Catholic priest of the Archdiocese of Kingston and Chaplain at the Newman Centre, Queen’s University. Corinne Box of the Bahá’í Community of Canada will be Chairman of this powerful committee. The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today announced the establishment of an External Advisory Committee (EAC) on religious freedom. The inaugural meeting of the EAC was hosted today at Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada in Ottawa by Minister Nicholson, and Andrew Bennett, Canada’s Ambassador for Religious Freedom. The Government of Canada officially opened its Office of Religious Freedom within Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada. The mandate of the Office is to protect, and advocate on behalf of, religious minorities under threat; oppose religious hatred and intolerance; and promote Canadian values of pluralism and tolerance abroad. The members of Canadian Christian Association and International Christian Voice ICV have congratulated Mr. John Gill and Mr. Peter Bhatti on their appointment as Members of EAC. Meanwhile, majority of Canadian Christians from Pakistan origin have expressed their dismay on loosing portfolio of Chairman and Vice-Chairman seats of EAC and blamed it on formation of large number of low profile associations instead of any United Council in Canada.
